Barrett-Jackson wrapped up their three day foray to the East Coast as their 10th annual Palm Beach Collector Car Auction concluded on Saturday. The 2012 car list was a bit lighter on Corvettes compared with the auction house’s previous Palm Beach sales, but we still witnessed 39 Corvettes ranging from a 1954 roadster to a 2008 Indy Pace Car replica being sold at no reserve.

The Palm Beach sale will have roughly 450 cars up for bid including 39 Corvettes which translates into about 9% of the total docket. Of those, all but 2 are being sold at no reserve.
Mecum Auctions next stop on their 2012 tour is this weekend in Kanas City, Missouri. The 3-day sale runs Thursday March 29th through Saturday March 31st at the Kansas City Convention Center – Bartle Hall. Velocity will have 15 hours of live coverage spread across all 3 auction days. As of this post, there are over 25 Corvettes scheduled to cross the block.

The 10th Annual Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale sale hosted by Auctions America takes place this weekend in Southern Florida. Nearly 70 Corvettes will be offered among the 500 cars expected to attend including 26 pristine Corvettes from the private collection of Tony Parella. The impressive group consists of 1 car from each year 1953 – 1969 and other rarities from the 3rd – 5th generations of America’s sports car.
Paul Newman’s last competitive car – a 2002 Corvette racer adorned with patriotic red, white and blue paint – made it past the low end of the pre-auction estimates at a Florida sale over the weekend – but not by much.
The famous actor’s car brought $275,000 at RM Auctions’ sale in Amelia Island on Saturday, March 10, just above the bottom of the range of $250,000 to $350,000 that had been estimated by experts in the weeks before the sale.
This rare Corvette racer is one of just 10 “big tank” Corvettes assembled in 1960. At the 12 hours of Sebring that year the “Race Rat” won its class, finished 16th overall, and was the only Corvette to finish in the top 25. It’ll cross the block on March 9th, 2012 at Gooding and Company’s Amelia Island sale.
The last car raced by renowned actor Paul Newman will be one of the features at RM Auctions’ Amelia Island sale next month in Florida. As lot #130, Newman’s 2002 #83 SCCA Corvette racer will cross the block on March 10, 2012. Newman raced the car from 2003 to 2007 and was victorious in it at his last race one year before he died in 2008.
