Russia Discovers Connection with Zora Arkus-Duntov and the Corvette

Sometimes a person is least appreciated in his homeland.

That was once the case with Zora Arkus-Duntov, the engineering genius who guided the Corvette through its early years after he emigrated from Europe.

But now Jerry Burton, who is the author of “Zora Arkus-Duntov, The Legend Behind Corvette” and longtime editor of Corvette Quarterly, says the Russians have recently discovered the magic of Zora for themselves.

Insurance Industry Group Names The Top 10 Most Stolen Corvettes

So here’s a fact for Corvette trivia fans: In the last 30 years, which model year of Corvette has been reported stolen more than any other? If you answered the 1984 Corvette, then give yourself a hand.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau has looked a thefts of Corvettes from 1981-2011 and issued their report to the insurance industry. Over the last 30 years, 90,427 Corvettes were reported stolen in the United States and Puerto Rico with the 1984 model year leading the way with 8,554 thefts.

At age 27, back in 1970, he placed a brand new orange Corvette atop his car lot’s sign when he opened it in Evansville, Indiana. He ended up selling the business in 1996, and the car came down.

C5 Corvette Seized From Drug Dealer is Now a DARE Car

A Corvette once associated with a drug dealer is now helping Bartlett, Tennessee police teach youngsters about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

The 1999 model has been adorned with patriotic decals as part of the DARE program, or Drug Abuse Resistance Education, which aims to show fourth and fifth graders how to keep peer pressure from making them succumb to drugs and alcohol.
