One of the more useful features available on the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible is the operation of the new top. Designers completed remade the top and its operational process, allowing the opening and closing at speeds of up to 30 mph. Drivers also have the ability to operate the top hands free with the new key fob. It’s not every day that someone turns 60, and when that “someone” is the Chevrolet Corvette, everyone wants to get in on the action.
Mid America Motorworks, a long-time supporter of the Corvette, has already started the party for its favorite car, and you don’t even have to leave home to take part in the fun.
When the 2014 Corvette Stingray hits the market later this year, it won’t really be a product of just Chevrolet and General Motors.
In the background will be numerous companies providing their expertise in certain areas to help make the Stingray the best car it can be.
One of those companies is International Automotive Components (IAC), which will be playing a key role in the highly anticipated – and much improved – interior of the seventh generation Corvette.
Chevrolet has packed a lot of new technology into the 2014 Corvette Stingray, and now comes word that the carmaker has selected a Plymouth, Michigan company to produce the industry’s first-ever brake rotor with a ductile iron hat and gray iron brake plates for the C7′s Z51 Performance Package.
The Corvette engineering team chose SANLUIS Rassini, the world’s largest producer of suspension components for light commercial vehicles and the largest fully integrated brake disc producer in the Americas, to produce the unique two-piece rotor design, which offers significant weight savings and extreme performance at high speeds.
Since its inception Corvette has been known for showcasing new and innovative technologies. From the 1953′s fiberglass body to the C3′s fiber optic light monitoring system to the more recent Magnetic Ride Control systems Corvette continues to set the technological pace for GM. The C7 follows suit by using an aluminum frame and more stealthily, a new Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) wire to control the hidden rear hatch vent.
Chevy’s Corvette may be a little fish in a big pond, as far as the total financial picture at General Motors goes.
But when it comes to the total economic impact created by ancillary industries, America’s Sports Car is making quite a big ripple in that pond, thank you, according to a story by Edmunds.com.
In fact, even with sales of just 14,132 Corvettes during 2012 because of the economic downturn and the impending release of the C7, Edmunds estimates that Corvette’s total economic activity could well be more than $2.5 billion.

For months now, in the aftermath of the Jalopnik renderings, critics of the polarizing new C7 rear end have been threatening to perform “plastic surgery” on their own and change what the GM designers came up with.

General Motors has announced that they will be moving their Performance Build Center from its current home in Wixom, MI to the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, Ky. The low-volume production facility currently hand assembles all of the dry sump motors (LS7, LS9, and LS3 with manual tranny) for Corvettes. Previously, they also produced the powerplants for the Cadillac STS-V and XLR-V.
