Corvette owners are known for customizing their rides and for many that starts with their license plate. Vanity plates are a way for Corvette owners to express themselves and their show pride in their car although some owners have a sense of humor. While at the National Corvette Museum’s C5/C6 Bash, we encountered some many Corvettes sporting a custom vanity plates so we thought we’d share our favorites with you.
NASCAR team owner and Chevy dealer Rick Hendrick spent today at Wixon’s Performance Build Center to take part in the Corvette Engine Build program. Hendrick built his own 505 horsepower LS7 V8 which will go into his Corvette Z06 Carbon Edition.
At the Corvette Museum’s C5/C6 Bash, Executive Director Wendell Strode announced that the NCM’s Motorsports Park project was again moving forward after the board voted to acquire an additional 92 acres to add to their existing 70 acre parcel. The project will now be divided into Stages with Stage 1 being the construction of a two mile “west” road course and an autocross/skid pad.

Bloomington Gold has announced that their popular GoldTour Corvette road tour will be returning to the event line up for the 2011 show coming up this June. The road tour through the rolling northern Illinois countryside was shelved in 2010 for the first time in recent memory. Held as part of the June 23rd – 25th Bloomington Gold Corvette show, the 30-ish mile GoldTour will stage at 5pm on June 25th, 2011 and leave at 6pm from the Kane County Law and Justice Center.
The Corvette Team continued their roll out of changes and updates to the 2012 Corvette at the Corvette Museum’s C5/C6 Bash. During this morning’s slide show of what’s new for the 2012 Corvette, we saw a new aftermarket wheel called the Torque 2. The wheel will be available from dealers through the Genuine Corvette Accessories catalog.

The retirement of Jetstream Blue Metallic in 2011 leaves the door open for GM to offer a new color for the 2012 Corvette and today we are pleased to bring you its replacement: Carlisle Blue Metallic. The new color is an existing Chevy color called “Ice Blue Metallic” and can be seen on the 2011 Cruze. We think the color reminds us of the 1982 color called Silver Blue Metallic or the Light Blue Metallic offered in 1984-85.

When Fast Five opens in theaters later this month, fans of the Fast & Furious franchise will be treated to another round of beautiful cars doing some of the most outrageous stunts conceived. One of the hero cars used in the opening sequence is a 1963 Corvette Grand Sport replica that we first caught a glimpse of in the trailer that aired during this year’s Super Bowl.
