GM Updates Corvette.com for the 2011 Model Year

GM has officially rolled out the 2011 model year Corvettes on www.corvette.com. The new site features many upgrades to the previous site including a cool new color selector and a new build your own configurator. Customers can search dealer inventories and connect with Corvette’s social media groups through facebook and twitter updates directly on the site.

LPG-Powered Corvette Z06 Claims New Drift World Record

Fitting nicely into our recent theme of green Corvettes comes this video from somewhere in Europe featuring a Corvette Z06 powered by natural gas. The oval track was measured at 400 feet in circumference and our hero in the lime-green Z06 drifted 25 complete rotations for a total of 9,925 feet. The previous record is mentioned in the video at 6,285 feet.

Last time we were on the subject of Corvettes painted green, we were talking Dark Bowling Green Metallic and the color similar to that which was featured on the Allstate 400 Corvette Grand Sport that ran at the Brickyard a couple weekends ago. Mid America Motorwork’s Chief Cheerleader Mike Yager recounts this Corvette barn find he investigated earlier this month. The Corvette in question was this Venetian Red 1957 roadster that had been locked away in a nailed up barn for over 35 years.

GM Goes Green with Brickyard 400 Corvette Pace Car

No, we’re not talking about an ethanol burning E85-capable Corvette like the Z06 that paced the 2008 Indianapolis 500. We’re talking about Green as in “Bowling Green Metallic” – the most recent shade of Green that last graced Corvettes in 2001. This weekend, NASCAR’s Brickyard 400 will be paced by this Green and White Corvette Grand Sport Coupe while Arctic White Corvette Grand Sport Convertibles will serve as Festival (parade) cars.

Hot Rod Magazine has a feature coming out later this year in which they take a C4 Corvette and show you how to make it outrun a new Corvette for dirt cheap. To help promote the story, they released a teaser vid on the Corvette Forum which shows the hot rod staff literally tearing and cutting apart a 1985 Corvette. Big mistake according to the C4 Corvette owners who have chimed in against the gratuitous destruction of their favorite sports car.
