Corvettes on Craiglist: 1969 FinoVette by George Barris

For sale on Craigslist is a George Barris custom creation built from a 1969 Corvette. The story goes that Barris was commissioned to the build the car for Bobby Rautbord, the off-shore boat racing champion who won the 1972 World Cup. The boat that Rautbord won the World Cup with was called the Fino #18 and so Barris named the creation the “Finovette”.

Florida Man Creates Electric C3 Corvette

Wow. That’s all we could say when we first arrived at the Gearbox Magazine showcasing Keith Stegath’s crazy C3 project. What started life as a basic 1976 Corvette is in the process of being converted into an electric powered street machine.

[VIDEO] Matt Farah Learns to Drift at Bondurant

We can debate all day long on whether the ability to slide your car around corners with the tires spinning and a huge cloud of smoke is a real form of “racing”. But where we will probably find agreement in is that the art of drifting is definitely something that takes a lot of practice to do right. The Smoking Tire’s Matt Farah has spent many hours behind the wheel of various autos and even he admitted to not having a clue on how to properly drift. So he headed to the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving where Formula Drift newcomer Corey Hosford was ready for a full day of instruction.

The Eldorette: a $200,000 Eye-Searing Testament to Hideous Crap

Article contributed by John Coyle / Corvette Forum

First, the good news: there’s apparently only one of these monstrosities. The bad news is everything else. The Eldorette is a combination of C3 Corvette and Cadillac Eldorado, and perfectly illustrates that some things – handguns and tequila, for example – just shouldn’t be put together. The seller claims over $200K was dumped into the construction, which is as crazy as it is sad.

MCACN 2011: Mid America’s Prototype C5 Corvettes

It’s not very often that we get to take an up close and personal look at a prototype Corvette. Most all of them are either crushed or destroyed during development by GM although a few of them have slipped out the door in the past. Mid America Motorworks brought three rare C5 prototypes to the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals last weekend in Chicago. We poured over them a couple of times throughout the weekend and you can too after the jump.

Keeping it Clean: SS Vette's Wicked Widebody

Article and Pictures contributed by Jason Giacchina / Corvette Forum

When it comes to the Corvette, custom looks can range from subtly menacing to downright gaudy. Fortunately companies like SS Vette fall firmly in the former category. As a result, even in this topsy-turvy economy, the company remains strong with an ever-expanding catalog of Vette parts and a presence at this year’s SEMA show.
