There are a lot of significant Corvettes out there. The first fuelie, the first big block, the first car of any Corvette generation or model year, etc. Many of these cars get locked away in a museum and seldom, if ever, see use on the road. When we stumbled across this video of EX-87, “the Duntov Mule”, which now resides in the Lingenfelter Collection we had to pass it along. After weeks of anticipation, we learned this morning that the 2013 60th Anniversary Corvette ZR1 will be the official pace car of the 96th Indianapolis 500. This is the first time the Corvette ZR1 has earned the role as the pace setter and with its 638 horsepower, it’s the most powerful production car ever pace the Indy 500.
Earlier this year, Callaway announced the building of a special run of 25 Corvette Grand Sports for the 25th Anniversary of RPO B2K, the first turbo-charged Corvettes offered by the factory. Although today’s RPO B2K has traded in the turbos for a supercharger, the end result is equally awesome.
If there is one aftermarket segment for Corvettes that really understands the importance of photography to its business, it’s the custom wheel market. During its 5 year model run between 1987 and 1991, Callaway assembled over 500 total cars under the RPO B2K moniker. The Callaway option package was upgraded slightly each year of its 5-year run. The peak came in 1991 when the visually stunning Speedster body style was unleashed. Only 10 were produced and here’s your chance to score Speedster #007 before it’s gone.
Last night on SPEED, we watched two shops from California duke it out as they attempted to modify and customize a 1986 Corvette in 48 hours. In the end, the blue team hailing from Shinbone Alley in Fresno came out on top with their 1986 Corvette which was finished in two-tone black and copper. The red team, from Sledsville in So-Cal, also went black and gold with their build, but their ambitious plan for customizing their Corvette was just too much to accomplish in 48 hours. Our friends at SPEED sent us some additional photography of the cars taken during filming of the show and we’ll share them with you after the jump.

Barrett-Jackson wrapped up their three day foray to the East Coast as their 10th annual Palm Beach Collector Car Auction concluded on Saturday. The 2012 car list was a bit lighter on Corvettes compared with the auction house’s previous Palm Beach sales, but we still witnessed 39 Corvettes ranging from a 1954 roadster to a 2008 Indy Pace Car replica being sold at no reserve.
