TV’s longest running automotive series, MotorWeek, will feature 2 Callaway Corvettes on an episode debuting this week on PBS stations. The show will subsequently air on the Velocity and SPEED networks. Tune in to see the MotorWeek crew put a 25th anniversary SC620 and a SC652 427 Convertible through their paces.
Mark Carlyle and his twin-turbo, atomic orange C6 Corvette just keep getting better and better.
Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a win to show for his outstanding performances.
In late October, Carlyle dropped below the 7 second mark with a record 6.99 time (at a record-setting 209 mph) in the semifinals of the LSX Drag Radial Class. But Carlyle ended up losing in the finals to Mark Brown.
In the late 1970′s the 3rd generation Corvette was languishing thanks to an aging platform and new government emissions and fuel economy requirements. Eager gearheads would do just about anything to make their ride stand out from the crowd. Enter customizer Les Dunham and the Corvette Caballista. His Dunham Coach Motor Car Company built just 50 Caballistas between 1977 and 1982. The example seen here is a later model based on 1982 Collector Edition Corvette.
One of the draws of SEMA is that you know you are going to see some cool custom cars and in our opinion, one of the best custom vettes on display at this year’s show was Rod Saboury’s 1963 Split Window Corvette he calls “Black Widow”. If Rod’s name rings a bell, it’s because Saboury was also the man behind the World’s fastest street Legal 1963 Corvette drag car which we featured just last month.
Really high performance sports cars like the Corvette ZR1 and Z06 always seem to come only with six-speed transmissions.
But not anymore.
On a forum post on Camaro5.com earlier this week, Howard Tanner, owner of Redline Motorsports, which bills itself as South Florida’s premier EFI performance shop, announced that his crew has been working hard to develop the world’s first ZR1 Corvette with an automatic transmission.

One possible contender for the title at this year’s highly anticipated OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational coming up in less than a month is this awesome 1967 Corvette owned by Jeff Cleary, whose creation has been featured on the cover of prominent magazines for years.

The 2,600 horsepower (no, that’s not a typo) monster will run the quarter mile in a scant 6.75 seconds. That’s just about how long it took the car to earn the title of the World’s Fastest Street Legal Car. If you’re looking for something to drive 1 kid to school, make an ice cream run, or just take a brief ¼ mile drive you’re in luck as the car is currently for sale on eBay.
We threw a picture of this 2007 Corvette Z06 up on our Facebook page last week and since it got a tremendous response there with nearly 500 likes, we figured it was worth a more in-depth review. Besides, we love double-threat custom as much as the next guy. Not only does this Corvette Z06 feature a gorgeous exterior, it also received some serious engine mods as well.
