2007 Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car Headstone

The Corvette headstone was spotted by a Jalopnik reader in a rural Indiana town in front of a monument business. Etched in the granite is a 2007 Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car. You’re a true enthusiast if you spring for this eternal mod.

Indiana Corvette Caravans Gather at Indy Motor Speedway

Many of the Corvette Caravans that are or have already converged on Bowling Green took a circuitous route in getting to the NCM which allowed owners to see some historic landmarks and show off their love of America’s sports car. The Indiana Caravan was no exception as members took a some parade laps around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway prior to hitting Interstate 65 for the trip South to Kentucky.

These pictures come from Jeff Wagner, a regular visitor to CorvetteBlogger.com. He is pictured below with his wife Renee and his Nassau Blue C5 Corvette:

National Corvette Caravan Stops in Tampa

The Florida leg of the 2009 National Corvette Caravan kicked off their cruise to Bowling Green, Kentucky for this weekend’s 15th Anniversary Celebration at the National Corvette Museum. The Florida Caravan started in South Florida this morning and broke off into two groups with one going through Orlando and the other coming up the west coast to Tampa.

About 100 Corvettes were gathered at Ferman Chevrolet in Tampa this afternoon before heading North. We met with a few of the members and spoke with Ernie Zager who is the Captain of the Florida leg. According to Zager, the Florida caravan will stop tonight just a few miles south of the Georgia border in Lake City, Florida where they will be guests at a barbeque by Bruce and Becky Glueck of Glueck Chevrolet.

Tomorrow morning the group will make their way to Road Atlanta for some parade laps or high speed passes around the Petit Le Mans course. From there, the Florida caravan will drive over to Kennessaw, Georgia where they will meet up with the Georgia Caravan at a Hooters restaurant for dinner. Both groups will spend the night in Kennessaw before making their way to Bowling Green on Thursday.

The Museum has a full slate of Corvette fun planned for the estimated 5,000 attendees that will be in Bowling Green for the 15th Anniversary Celebration. Festivities will include the Corvette Hall of Fame, seminars, historic video presentations, road tours and other grand activities including the official ribbon-cutting for the Museum’s new areas.

Annual Solid Axle Corvette Club Cruise Photos

The Solid Axle Corvette Club recently held their annual meeting in Ventura, California and one of highlights is the Sunday morning cruise. This year, a contingent of over 60 classic Corvettes drove along Highway 192 with a slight detour around the Santa Barbara Mission. Organizers described the Corvette cruise event as one of the largest gathering of solid axle Corvettes in the world.

Santa Barbara Pix was on scene and has published over 200 photos of the classic C1-era Corvettes driving past the Mission.

National Corvette Homecoming To Be Held This Weekend

If you are anywhere near Bowling Green this weekend, prepare to see a lot of Corvettes. The National Corvette Homecoming will be held this weekend with enthusiasts from around the country descending on the birthplace hometown of their favorite sports car.

The Homecoming has been a mainstay in Bowling Green since 1981. Corvette owners can network with other owners, attend seminars and engage in friendly competition for trophies in the judged car show. Corvette celebrities like Assembly Plant Manager Paul Graham, former manager Wil Cooksey and retired GM employee and C4 expert Gordon Killebrew will all be on hand to share their knowledge and experiences.

The festivities will be held at the Sloan Convention Center and nearby Holiday Inn. The only downside for visitors is that tours of the Corvette Assembly Plant won’t be held as the plant is currently on hiatus. For more info and a schedule of events, visit National Corvette Homecoming.

43 Years Ago Today a Young Man Buys A 1966 Corvette

Today is the 43rd anniversary of my father’s purchase of a Tuxedo Black 1966 Corvette from Rohrer Chevrolet in Camden, New Jersey. If you are a new reader of CorvetteBlogger, my original post on this topic from June 2007 will tell you a lot about me and my love of Corvettes. It also gives me a chance to pay tribute to my day who I lost in 1982.

1967 Corvette Sting Ray Burnout at Bloomington Gold

It’s always fun when you see a guy riding a classic Corvette hard. In this video from last weekend’s Bloomington Gold parade, the owner of this Riverside Red ’67 Coupe decides to show how a real burnout is done.

From Corvette Forum Member 67-427ci:

Saturday evening we were invited to attend a picinic held by the Fox Valley Corvette Club which is quite a gathering out in the country. The parade of approximately 500 corvettes goes past the picinc site and is quite a site to see. A few volunteers are out at the road to help control traffic while more cars than I can count stop and do their best attempt at a burnout. Since there were no good C2 attempts made some old guy in a Red Coupe gave it a try.

Stones, indeed!
