First Look: 2012 Corvette Cup Wheels and Michelin Sport Cup Tires

Good things come to those who wait and about fifteen minutes following the close of the National Corvette Museum, these production 2012 Z06 Corvettes were found parked in the front lot. Each features the new lighweight aluminum cup wheels in both black and Machined Face. The Supersonic Blue Z06 with the Black wheels are sporting the new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires.

Texas tuner Hennessey Performance Engineering is known for their performance packages that substantially increase the power of GM and other American-built cars and trucks. Right after the initial introduction of the Corvette ZR1, HPE came out with their ZR700 package which boosted the ZR1′s horsepower to 705. Hennessey also offers the ZR750 package which brings the power on tap to 755-ponies, a ground-pounding 728 pounds-feet of torque and a top speed in excess of 224 mph! Man Gets Locked Inside a Corvette ZR1, Calls 911 for Help

Lee Adams of Central Florida loves his sports cars. In addition to a 2009 Corvette ZR1, Adams owns a Ferrari, Mosler and an Ariel Atom, so you can tell he is a real car guy. Nissan’s GT-R made a run in 2009 against the ZR1 on the world famous Nordschleife and they came within .3 of a second of the Corvette’s 7:26.4 lap. This 2010 Cyber Gray Corvette ZR1 put its front end into some unknown immovable object, shearing the drivers rear chrome wheel off the axle and triggering the airbag. Hope the driver was okay. Now its sitting in a California salvage yard with an estimated repair bill of over $70,000. The good news for you fixer-uppers is that its offered for sale with a salvage title.

Each year in early January the auto industry descends upon snowy Detroit to kick off the annual car show season. Automakers from around the world debut new models, special editions, and future technologies. This year’s show featured roughly 40 new vehicle introductions as the auto industry continues to recover from the events of the last couple of years. Over 700,000 people will visit Detroit’s Cobo Center over the course of the 9 public show days.

NASCAR’s Jimmie Johnson, NFL star running back DeAngelo Williams and Corvette Racing’s Johnny O’Connell will get behind the wheel of various Corvette models for the premiere of SPEED’s original series Test Drive. Hosted by Tommy Kendall, the Corvette test drives will take place on the streets surrounding Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C and Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP) in Kershaw S.C.
