Corvettes on eBay: One-Owner 1968 Corvette Convertible Barn Find

How often does a one-owner 1968 Corvette with less than 65,000 miles come on the market these days?

Not very often, but that’s the case this week with this Cordovan Maroon convertible up for sale at no reserve on eBay. Already, 25 bids have pushed the price to $20,300, with the auction slated to run through 8:45 p.m. next Sunday, Jan. 19.

Labeled as a “beautiful, unrestored” Corvette, the car is furthermore described as a “true barn/garage find” as the seller says he discovered it in a garage where it had been hidden since 1980 with a registration sticker that expired the next year.

The new owner will get a bundle of documentation, including the original title from 1968, the protect-o-plate, and VIN perforated warranty/service booklet.

The car also retains its original numbers-matching L79 327/350 hp motor and 4-speed manual transmission and comes nicely optioned with factory air, both tops (soft and vinyl-covered hardtop), telescoping steering wheel, and AM/FM radio.

We’re also happy to see that the seller has already gone through the car mechanically, with all new brakes, gas tank, exhaust, and complete tune-up accomplished. “Now it starts right up and runs great,” he says, “like a true 63K mile car. It idles smooth and has a great exhaust note.”

Furthermore, all the gauges, tach, speedometer, pop-up lights, wipers, signals, interior lights, etc., are said to “all work as they should.”

He believes the rare Cordovan Maroon paint is original, and therefore he “just gave it a good cleaning and light polish and it shines great.” You can get a good look at the car in a video that accompanies the listing, and while we did notice some imperfections in the paint, we’d agree it’s a good-looking survivor.

He describes the original black interior as being “in great shape as well with minimal wear,” and adds that even the convertible top is “still in good shape.”

While acknowledging that this ‘Vette isn’t “a perfect show car,” he notes that overall, some 52 years after leaving the St. Louis factory, this ’68 remains “a beautiful and collectible, 1 owner Corvette convertible with rare options.”

As he points out, “finding another one like it doesn’t happen every day.”

  1. Love the VETTES!!!!
2020 should be a Collector Vette, being the first mid-engine…
    Keep it going CHEVY!!

  2. Beautiful example of a C3. The L79 was the best choice for engines IMHO. Amazing that there was almost 9000 buyers in 1968 that paid $57.95 for wheel covers in place of the Rally Wheels.
Also @ Dan Grote: Fiber Optics always worked as long as the tail light bulbs were good.
