While many Corvette enthusiasts here in the States are enjoying BBQs and a three-day weekend that’s most associated with the end of summer, your Corvette engineering staff is half-way around the world at the Nurburgring in Germany where they are preparing to test the C8 Mid-Engine Corvette.

For the first time, the production version of the C8 Corvette is being shown without the heavy black cloth camouflage coverings that we’ve become accustomed to seeing.

A whole slew of new photos showing the next-generation Corvette are being shared at various outlets including RoadandTrack.com and Carscoops.com. However, as we reached out to the spy photographer, he told us he has more photos as multiple MEs were captured at a gas station and so we bought the entire set of 50 photos to share!

Just looking at these photos gives us a warm feeling inside! On the front, we finally get a good look at the front grill which is somewhat similar to the ZR1s. We noticed that Chevy has the same hex-shaped fins within the grill that is now a signature design across the Chevrolet brand.

The hood of the Corvette is a clean design with no air-vents or other extrusions showing.

The side scoop is massive and appears very similar to the one spotted on the C8.R racecar that was caught testing last month at Road America. One thing we’ve noticed is that there are no indications on how to open the doors so we think that perhaps there is a pressure switch under those scoops.

The back shows a pretty close match to our recent rendering from FVS and the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com with vents running down the side of the rear engine hatch and what looks to be a beauty window that will show the contents of the engine bay. At the top and center of the rear hatch is an integrated rear-facing camera that will no doubt provide a better view to the driver via an electronic rear-view monitor.

Through the vinyl camo we can also make out some of the lighting characteristics of the C8 Corvette, however, we believe there is still some deception going on at the rear with the wrap-around taillights. The front shows a set of HID headlights with several LED driving lights illuminated.

All and all, we are very excited to the see the C8 Mid-Engine Corvette without its covers. Chevrolet has previously stated that they like to use the 12.9-mile Nurburgring for refining the ride and handling of their prototypes. The fact that Chevrolet is already testing the car at the Nurburgring which should give us an indication that development of the car is moving along at a fast and furious pace!

  1. If the C8 in standard trim is around the cost of a C7 ZO6 I’ll have one in my garage late 2020. But don’t tell my wife.

  2. It’s great! Zora would love it! All you whiners go home! I heard it on every generation from the C4 to the C7. If you think you can do a better job, apply at GM Styling. I’m thinking how I can talk my bride of 42 years into why Vette #10 will make its appearance. I want a red one, bright red this time.

  3. What will the luggage space be like in the C8? Most of my driving consists of road trips to races, car events, etc. and my C7 coupe is great for belongings and any additional purchases. Will the C8 basically lose most of this space like most mid-engine cars? Despite the increased power and styling this could be a factor in sales to current owners.

  4. Gonna be my sixth Vette. Probably be yellow this time. Time to get away from the Monteray/Crystal/Long Beach reds of my previous rides. Am already drawing up plans for the drive-in door to my rec room. Zora’s smiling from beyond!

  5. Sure hope that side scoop is not the final production. If so I am a bit disappointed. I would have like to have seen a more smoothly integrated scoop rather than something that looks like an after thought and was just tacked on.

  6. But as soon as I preorder this one the Z06 will come out the following year. Then the ZR1 right after that. OK I’m in 🙂

  7. Former 1977 owner completely drooling over this beast. Here is to hoping that the price s are somewhat in line with current C7 models; if GM prices this monster like the Euro mid engine rides, it could threaten the survival of the brand IMHO, to say nothing of pitching a successful sale to the “younger” 40 and under crowd. Either way, I love it…and best yet, the Mrs. blessed the buy, even going as far as seeing what the trade in for my 335iS stands at! Not that she had much of a say, knowing that we live less than 30 minutes from Bowling Green…lol!

Also, I doubt these are “spy” shots. GM wants this car to be seen now!
