Remember the old Purple People Eater race car that won the 1959 SCCA National Championship in the B/Production class with Jim Jeffords at the wheel?

Well, here’s a modern version of that renowned racer that was campaigned by Nickey Chevrolet and painted a non-factory purple nearly 60 years ago.

This 1998 Corvette, up for sale on eBay right now at the “Buy It Now” price of $19,995, left the Bowling Green factory in a very rare Medium Purple Pearl Metallic, one of just 381 C5s so painted that year.

Said to be in show quality condition inside and out, this Corvette coupe has just 45,189 miles on the odometer and comes with a perfect Carfax.

Best of all for collectors, this two-owner, well-documented California Corvette has the rare 6-speed transmission to go with its unusual color. In fact, that combo makes it one of just 22 manual Corvettes painted that color out of a whopping 31,084 cars made in ’98.

The ad points out that the exterior is in “exceptional condition,” with the original Medium Purple Pearl Metallic paint said to be in “awesome” shape. The wheels remain “pristine,” the black interior is “spotless,” and the engine bay is so clean it looks “like an operating room.”

“It does not get any better than that,” the seller claims. “Chances are you will never see another one unless you own this one.”
