Anyone who’s ever searched for a used Suburban knows that it’s hard to find one of these SUVs with low miles on the odometer.
On the other hand, most everyone thinks of Corvettes and other sports cars as being used occasionally, so it’s easy to find them with less than 10,000 miles, no matter how old they may be.
Now a new study by ISeeCars.com proves these two assumptions to be true.
In fact, four GM SUVs rank in the top 10 most-driven vehicles, with the Suburban ranking No. 1 with an average 14,299 miles per year, some 25.1 percent above the average. Also ranking in the top five are the GMC Yukon XL with 14,109 miles, Chevrolet Tahoe with 13,645; and GMC Yukon with 13,396.

To the other extreme, the Chevy Corvette convertible ranks as the car driven the least number of miles per year at just 4,365 miles, or some 61.8 percent below the average. The Corvette coupe ranks fourth on this list at 4,939 miles, or 56.8 percent below the norm.

Those numbers are really surprising in one way because Corvettes are so much fun to drive, you’d think their owners would rack up the miles enjoying them. But the truth is that many owners don’t use Corvettes and other sports cars as daily drivers, instead often using them as a weekend pleasure vehicle that may go weeks between use, sometimes not at all in the winter months in colder climates.
“Coupes and convertibles are the least driven vehicle segments, with coupes being driven 23 percent less than the average vehicle and convertibles 54 percent less,” confirms Phong Ly, CEO of iSeeCars.com.
The results of this study are good news for enthusiasts on the hunt for a used sports car like a Corvette convertible because it’s easy to find a low-mileage creampuff.
On the other hand, some folks worry that a car not driven on a regular basis can sometimes develop more problems down the road because of that lack of use.
Of course, not everyone lives up to these averages. On autotrader.com today, we found a used 2014 Corvette Coupe with 82,245 miles already for sale, not to mention a 2015 Z06 with a remarkable 263,062 miles – though that was likely a misprint since the asking price remained a rather normal $65,988!

So for the big kahuna SUVs, people are buying a thousand gallons gas a year and whining about fuel expenses? %-o
My GS vert averaged only 2200 miles in its first year of existence.
Doesn’t look like that number will be exceeded this year…
I have a C7 coupe and a C5 Vert. Convertible only gets used for vert weather. Hot summer nights etc. Yep, only few thousand miles a year tops. Had a C6 coupe to complement the vert also. Here in NE it’s a 7 month driving season.

I have a 2914 coupe with 50.000+ miles. I intend to go across country this summer. I bought mine to drive and enjoy. I’ll wait to see the low mileage ones in a museum.
2016 C7 Coupe; bought it new — now has 53,000.
Bought it to drive it and getting my money’s worth. I never drive it to work.
The best thing about this car, investment-wise, has been the time invested behind the wheel!

Eight weeks ago I bought a 2010 base model Corvette convertible with just 25k miles. Very clean, beautiful car. I knew that was low mileage and now I know it was VERY low. I made a very good buy on it as well so now I’m more than thrilled with the deal I got on the great American sports car. I really like this blog!
They should have checked Ford GTs — based on the mileages I have seen on examples that come up for auction it appears that most of those cars were purchased by investors, placed straight into storage and were never driven at all. Hope this doesn’t happen with ZR1s.
