Corvette Racing has yet to be the fastest car in GTLM this year and in last weeks Sahlen’s Six Hour race, the C7.Rs were 5th and 6th with times of 01:43.666 and 01:43.982 respectively.

Meanwhile it was the Fords and Porsches who have occupied the top of the class with the fastest lap going to the No.67 Ford GT with a time of 01:42.872. Only through strategy, hard driving and a little bit of luck does Corvette Racing finish second at Watkins Glen.

In the first Balance of Performance (BoP) updates since Long Beach, it looks like the race organizers have finally concluded that the Corvettes and BMWs haven’t been running with the rest of the GTLM class. Both teams will now see power increases ahead of Sunday’s Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.

The Corvette C7.Rs will see an increase in their air restrictors by 0.9mm to 31.5mm. The Corvettes also gain an additional liter of fuel for a total capacity of 92L.

The BMW M8 will get an increase to their turbo boost ratios and will also gain two additional liters of fuel for 91 total liters.

Corvette Racing Hit with Balance of Performance (BoP) Ahead of Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix at CTMP

SportsCar365.com says that IMSA is usually required to post Balance of Performance changes at least seven days prior to the start of the next event, the series has allowances to make the change for CTMP which falls just one week after the previous race at Watkins Glen:

“IMSA Technical Committee performed its standard post-event data analysis for both the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge,” a statement from the series read.

“After careful consideration, and in advance of this week’s Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, IMSA will issue an updated Balance of Performance Table as permitted by IMSA 2018 Sporting Regulation attachment 2.4.5.”
