[VIDEO] C7 Corvette Grand Sport Joins the Flying Roof Club

A club is generally made up of people who have a common interest, like Corvettes. And while there are some clubs that you want to join, there is a fraternity of Corvette owners who have joined a club that they wish they weren’t a member of. If you have never heard of the “Flying Roof Club” or FRC for short, take notice as just a couple seconds of carelessness will make you member faster than you can say “Dammit!”

A few years back there was an issue with the roofs delaminating, which would cause the top of the panels to lift right off. But the most common way for owners to become members of the FRC is by taking a drive in their Corvette Coupes without fulling locking down the Targa top after it was off the car.

As a painful reminder, and to show just how easy these roofs can lift even at low speeds, we bring you this quick 14-second video of a C7 Corvette Grand Sport that looks to be leaving a Cars and Coffee gathering or similar get-together. As the Grand Sport Coupe makes a turn, he rolls lightly on the accelerator to pass a white SUV and that’s when calamity strikes. The roof is lifted off the car and goes flying.

Lucky for the driver that there weren’t any cars behind him, and as the video ends with the roof still in the air, we are unsure of the condition of the top after it goes flying. It’s a painful fix that will take several hundred dollars or more to remedy, but at least in this instance, the only things that got hurt in this video was the top and the driver’s ego.
