NFL Player Christian Covington Surprises His Dad With a Corvette Stingray

Like so many other Corvette enthusiasts, Grover Covington took one for the team, you might say.

Covington wound up as the all-time sacks leader after a Hall of Fame career for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League.

Along the way, he and his wife had three children, leading to the decision to sell his prized Corvette and replace it with a roomier mini-van that made more sense for a growing family.

Fast forward to today. Grover just turned 62 years old, and his son – Christian Covington, now a Defensive End for the NFL’s Houston Texans – honored his dad with a very special gray C7 Corvette Coupe, complete with sporty black wheels and a 460 horsepower engine.

In a post on Instagram, Christian wrote:

This man gave up his Corvette from his football days to start a family. Consider this returning the favor haha!! Dad, thank you for raising me and being there for me and my sisters throughout every sacrifice that you had to make, and every obstacle and trial that was thrown yours and moms way. This is the least that we could do to say thank you for everything that you’ve done. Happy Birthday!!! 62 looks good on you!!!

“Once we had my baby sister, Autumn, my mom said, ‘It’s time to sell the Corvette, it’s time to get a mini-van'” Christian explained. “He loved that car, so it was tough on him.”

We’re sure Grover wouldn’t have changed anything about the sacrifices he made for his family through the years, but the look of gratitude on his face after receiving the gift from his son shows just how much the gift means to him.

“It’s something I’ve honestly wanted to do all my life,” Christian said. “It’s something near and dear to him. It’s my little token of appreciation for what he’s done for me. It’s a little something to say thank you for everything he’s done.”
