Corvette Delivery Dispatch with National Corvette Seller Mike Furman for Feb. 4th

Each week, Criswell Chevrolet’s Mike Furman delivers new Corvette Stingrays, Grand Sports and Z06s to his customers who come from all parts of the country to work with the nation’s top individual Corvette seller.

We were out of town last Sunday for the Rolex 24 at Daytona, so this week we are doing an expanded Delivery Dispatch for Mike, combining last week’s new Corvette deliveries into this week’s full post.

Mike starts off the post this week with words about the loss of his friend Sid Harchelroad. A new Sebring Orange Corvette Grand Sport was delivered and it offered a chance to compare it to Inferno Orange and Torch Red, so check out those photos. As always Mike has put together another great collection of throwbacks, vintage and other Corvette photos.

~Today is SuperBowl Sunday…no matter who you root for today it will be like Football replay Nirvana until game time. Some of the old games are worth watching again and some…not so much. I’m asked all the time which was my favorite Corvette? The correct answer should be the one you own currently but in many cases the answers will vary all over the map. From my perspective all Corvette deliveries are fun but watching people take delivery of their very first Corvette is worth the price of admission. Dream car day is what I call it when folks are taking delivery of their first Corvette. Lifetime of dreams coming together in one moment.

On a sad not we lost a good friend to all this past Tuesday…Sid Harchelroad of Imperial, Nebraska. I knew Sid well for 16 years and from day one we hit it off as if we grew up next to each other.

Sid and I last year at Spring Mountain. Sid wanted to join my class of 20 customers and just enjoy a good time. We certainly did that!

~Spotlight on one delivery this week. Lots of pictures so that you can see the difference of what Sebring Orange Tintcoat looks like vs other colors.

~Brian Z. Of Lancaster, PA called me 8 weeks ago to factory order a new Sebring Orange 2018 Grand Sport Convt. Brian and his Father took the 114 mile ride down Saturday and traded in his 2011 Inferno Orange Grand Sport. Brian’s new 2018 Corvette will join his 1979 Corvette that he has in the garage. Equipment list includes 2LT Pkg, CF badge Pkg, Black Wheels, Auto trans, CF painted mirrors and much more. Now all he needs is top down driving weather. Brian is one of the nicest guys around and I suspect his Father had a big influence on him in many ways. Glad I got to meet them both!

~Rick from Alma, Arkansas received his new Z06 via Plycon Trucking.

~Joe C. of Fallston, MD had his Carbon 65 picked up and shipped to his home. Joe was thrilled with his new addition.

~Good story about the Oil filler cap that is now on the C7’s. Couple years ago John E. of Oregon gave me a tip that the 2012/13 Cadillac V series used the Mobil 1 insignia oil filler cap. So I bought one from our parts dept. for my C7 Z06. I wondered if Mobil 1 is the official oil of the Corvette then why did the first years of the C7 have Corvette filler caps but no Mobil 1 lettering. So I posed that question to a Mobil 1 Exec that I know and he said to send him pics…and then he asked to send him 6 caps. So I bought 6 oil filler caps for the above mentioned model Cadillac and mailed them out. It took almost two years but he got it changed and here is the cap you see on todays Corvettes. Oh and that Mobil 1 Exec. sent me a real cool Mobil 1 Collectable for my troubles.

~Yesterday at the dealership… Ken F. Of Frederick, MD stopped by… he had bought his ‘17 Grand Sport from me in Sept 2016…but more importantly way back in 1974 after he returned to the States (Thank you for your Service) he bought this 1973 Code 980 Orange Corvette Cpe with 12,000 miles on the odometer. Now sporting 46,000 miles Ken’s 73 Vette still has the original paint! Ken drove the 25 miles down to Criswell to visit me and to order a new 2019 Z06…trading the GS not the ‘73! 84% of the Corvettes built in 1973 were cpe’s and only 42% of all ‘73 Corvettes had manual transmission like Ken’s. Ken’s 2019 Z06 will be Sebring Orange with Kalahari interior and 7spd manual trans.

~Ross B. Of Virginia Beach,VA called me 8 weeks ago to order his 2nd Corvette from me. The last one was a 2011 GS Cpe and this time he ordered a 2018 Black Grand Sport Convt with two tone Red/Black microfiber insert Seats. It looks even better in person!! Ross ordered his Convt. with 2LT Pkg, red calipers, Auto trans, Black Wheels with the red stripe and much more. Ross and his son David plan on going to several Corvette events per year and this Grand Sport will attract a crowd in a heartbeat.

~Don N. Of Aiken, South Carolina reached out to me to order his 2018 Corvette Grand Sport Convt. and he wanted to take delivery at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY. Friday was delivery day and the Museum rolled out the red carpet for Don and his wife Cheri. Don ordered Watkins Glen Gray Metallic with Black microfiber insert GT Bucket Seats, Black top, Heritage Center stripe, CF badge Pkg, 7 Spd manual trans, machine faced wheels, CF Painted mirrors and 2 LT Pkg. Now the fun begins just in time for Spring Driving season in South Carolina! Here in Don’s own words along with his review… “Mike, Thanks for the great experience. Thank you for making this so easy." "Ordering my 2018 Corvette Grand Sport from Mike was a terrific experience. Mike knows the product line inside and out and was able to guide me through the order process. Took delivery at the National Corvette Museum so I still haven’t met Mike face to face. Best car buying experience ever.” Don Powerful words that mean a great deal to me. Thanks Don.

~Joe C. Of Fallston, MD called me 10 weeks ago looking for one of the last Carbon 65 editions built . I was able to get his 2018 Grand Sport Convt Order picked up and built and he has #582 of 650 built! 1 of 35 Grand Sport Convt Carbon 65’s produced and only 27 of that number shifts with the Auto trans! So this is pretty darn rare. The Ceramic Matrix Gray Metallic looks great with a blue top, blue stitching and blue calipers!!

~Here is one of the coolest Corvette pics I have ever found. The story goes that the original owner bought a brand new 1963 Split Window Corvette from a dealer in Houston, Texas. The owner had an Aunt that was a Nun and she wanted to drive it, so this is one heckuva way to have it blessed! I wonder if she burned rubber?
