[GALLERY] The 2019 Corvette ZR1 at the North American International Auto Show

The biggest and most important auto show of the year kicked off this week in Detroit with the annual North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). While there were hundreds of new cars present and countless new model reveals we were there to peep just one car – the 755hp 2019 Corvette ZR1.

The Chevrolet display was arranged largely the same as last year. Their main focus this year, though, was the all-new Silverado which was being shown to a major auto show crowd for the first time. The rest of the display paid tribute to 100 years of Silverado and also showcased their bevy of crossover vehicles in addition to the Malibu, Cruze, Impala and others. A cool virtual reality experience was located right in the center of the display.

A pair of Corvettes were tucked quietly over in a dark corner of the display next to a set of entrance and exit doors. A Torch Red Grand Sport with black interior was flanked by a brand new 2019 ZR1. The Watkins Glen Gray ZR1 coupe sat on a nondescript raised platform. In fact, if you weren’t paying attention or didn’t know about the ZR1 we gather you’d have walked right by it. We suspect the Chevrolet display will have a much different theme next year (hint, hint…).

The ZR1 on display was VIN #003EX, a preproduction pilot car. In addition to the Watkins Glen Gray paint it featured the black interior with blue contrast stitching and a 7-speed manual transmission. Of course, the most noticeable feature was that giant ZTK wing mounted to the top of the rear fascia. We love the cutout hood and the huge supercharger cover sitting on top of the LT5. Between the wing, the side skirts, the big bulging hood, and those giant front air intakes, the ZR1 is one menacing package. We look forward to seeing more of them as they get closer to production.
