[VIDEO] Evolution of the Chevrolet Corvette

Even if you’ve been a Corvette enthusiast for years, it never hurts to take a look back at how your favorite car has evolved over the years.

Cars Evolution has summed up the Corvette’s 65-year history in a short video that offers photos and tidbits of information about the car from the first 1953 model to the anticipated C7 ZR1 (which is labeled a 2018 model in the video but appears to be on its way as possibly a 2019 model early next year).

Cars Evolution also offers videos that show how the Challenge and Mustang have progressed in design, powertrains, performance, and price.

Getting back to the Corvette, it was interesting to be reminded that the car actually decreased in price from 1953 to 1956. The first model was $3,498 with its inline Blue Flame six-cylinder engine that produced just 150 horsepower, while the much-improved ’56 was just $3,120 but came with a 4.3-liter V8 that upped the ante to 240 horses.

Here’s a brief rundown of information from the video about other key models over the years:

  • 1962 – $4,038, 5.4 liter V8, 360hp
  • 1963 – $4,252, 5.4 liter V8, 360hp

  1. The image depicted as a 1958 model is actually a 1961 model, as it has the creased “Stingray” rear end that wasn’t introduced until 1961.
