Callaway Competition: ADAC GT Masters Hockenheim Preview

The final weekend of the German ADAC GT Masters is upon us. After nearly 5 months of intense on-track battles with the best of Germany, Callaway Competition look to capture their first title with their Callaway C7 GT3‐R. Spearheading the fight is Frenchman Jules Gounon. Going from strength to strength, Jules has emerged into the final race with a slim lead of only 15 points against the Factory BMW entry of Philip Eng.

Retuning after a long hiatus is recently crowned Blancpain Pro‐Am Champion Daniel Keilwitz. Last time out, Keilwitz captured a victory for the Leingarten squad at the Red Bull Ring and will look to aim for the highest possible spot this weekend. A recent conflict after the Sachsenring involving both Zakspeed Mercedes has reduced the original 20‐point gap Jules had, to an even narrower 15!

Despite the slim points gap, the French-German duo (Keilwitz and Gounon) will be fighting hard until the end: “My mind is fully on the weekend ahead.” Explains Gounon. “My approach will be balanced. On the one hand, we have a point lead but will not take this for granted but will also not drive completely flat out. It’s great to have Daniel back in the team. Last time we were together we won the race at the Red Bull Ring. But overall, I will be “seeking revenge” after last years end to my title.”

Completing the lineup for Corvette Motorsport is customer Callaway team RWT Racing. After a difficult 2017 season, the team will look to end their season on a positive, with their new C7 GT3. “The new Corvette overall is a fantastic car (especially with Callaway Competition).” Explains Sven Barth. “However, we have had some bad luck and difficulties for us this season. The focus is that we score some good points for the last time this season.”

Track action gets underway Friday, with Both Saturday & Sundays events at 13:15 local time (7:15 Eastern). Free live stream coverage is available at: www.adac‐gt‐masters.de/livestream‐adac‐gt‐masters.html.

Team Quotes:

Jules Gounon (Nr77 Valvoline/Roller C7 GT3‐R):

“Sachsenring was an unfortunate weekend for us. However, I am still “living the dream” racing these great cars. My mind is fully on the weekend ahead. My approach will be balanced. On the one hand we have a point lead but will not take this for granted but will also not drive completely flat out. It’s great to have Daniel back in the team. Last time we were together we won the race at the Red Bull Ring. But overall, I will be “seeking revenge” after last years end to my title.”

Daniel Keilwitz (Nr77 Valvoline/Roller C7 GT3‐R):

“It’s a great feeling being back in the Corvette. Almost two months away. For sure it’s not so easy. I think we are very prepared for this weekend. Let’s hope I can help both Jules (with his Drivers) and the team, with their titles. The goal and aim for this weekend are the titles, and then after that, a focus on race wins.”

Sven Barth (Nr13 RWT Racing C7 GT3‐R):

“The new Corvette overall is a fantastic car (especially with Callaway Competition). However, we have had some bad luck and difficulties for us this season. The focus is that we score some good points for the last time this season.”

Maximilian Hackländer (Nr13 RWT Racing C7 GT3‐R):

“It’s been a frustrating season overall. In the Races we have been strong, but our Qualifying was not what we were aiming for. Despite knowing that we could have had top 10 results for the races we did finish, we must now look ahead for this weekend and to end the season on a high.”
