With the ever-popular Dale Earnhardt Jr., announcing his retirement from NASCAR racing after this season, he’s an even hotter topic than ever.
That could make it a good time to sell the 2009 Corvette ZR1 that was gifted to him by Rick Hendrick nine years ago.
The eBay listing by Fairfield Auto Group of Montoursville, PA – which runs through Sunday afternoon – notes that this ZR1 is the 23rd ever built and was special ordered through Hendrick.
A CorvetteBlogger post in 2008 reported that Earnhardt’s car was one of five such ZR1s that Hendricks Motorsports team took delivery of at the National Corvette Museum. Drivers Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon, along with Hendrick, made the trip to the Museum, but Dale Jr. wasn’t available to be there.
Fairfield says this Corvette was used as a demonstrator by Dale Jr. and even sports his signature on the console.
The car is one of only 368 ZR1s done in classic Black and includes a special color combo that customers could not order out of the factory. It’s loaded to the gills, with chrome aluminum wheels, carbon fiber roof panel, and the 3ZR package that includes a leather-wrapped dash and door panels, heated power seats, navigation, and many other class-leading technologies.
If you’re worried about the effects of a NASCAR driver putting the hammer down on your car, don’t worry. Dale Jr. apparently didn’t drive it very often – as it has just 1,523 miles showing on the odometer. In fact, the listing says the car is in “great condition” and has a “clean history.”
As for documentation, the original window sticker and build sheet (signed by Corvette chief engineer Tom Wallace) are also included, as well as documentation showing Dale Jr. was the owner.
You can have all this at the “Buy It Now” price of $97,978 – well above the current going price in the 50s and 60s for other examples similar to this one. Is knowing Dale Jr. actually owned this car and drove it worth that extra money to you?
