Callaway Wins April Fools Day with Debut of the New Callaway Callamino

Our friends at Callaway Cars have once again won our informal April Fools Day contest with their latest creation – the Callaway Callamino. Callaway announced the “new model” on Saturday, saying they are expanding their reach with a new product offering that will be rolled out at the New York Auto Show later this month.

Unfortunately, if you wanted in on this revolutionary new Corvette model, you could only order it on Saturday, April 1st. “Callamino pricing is available upon request, based on the purchaser’s specific GQ (Gullibility Quotient) level”.

The Callamino takes its cues from the Chevrolet El Camino and applies them to the C7 Corvette. The good news is that the Paul Deutschman-designed Callamino conversion will be available for any version of the C7 Corvette Coupe and will fit the Callaway SC627 Stingray, Grand Sport or the Callaway SC757 Corvette Z06!

“Cargo capacity is increased significantly, overall weight is barely 10 pounds more and drag coefficient is reduced over stock only slightly,” said Callaway Cars founder and CEO, Reeves Callaway. “Cargo capacity is increased significantly, overall weight is barely one pound more and drag coefficient is reduced over stock only slightly. For owners who are simply never satisfied, an optional tonneau cover with integral wing will be available first quarter 2018”. Reeves adds that improving these features was not a design goal. “The clear objective was to make a unique design statement, at a reasonable cost, with no penalty.”

And just like the El Camino which was marketed by Chevrolet with the tag line, “Incredibly, it’s also a truck”, the Callaway Callamino includes an expansive cargo area and adds severe duty chassis components resulting in a 6,600 lb load capacity. An optional Class IV trailering package with integrated trailer brake controller and side outlet exhaust system is also available for a towing capacity of up to 14,000 lbs!

Back in 2013, Callaway introduced the AeroWagonette, also on April 1st. It was a two-wheel trailer matching the design of the concept Callaway AeroWagen designed to carry up to three children with an the appropriate amount of isolation for the parents.
