[VIDEO] Two Barn Find Corvettes Sold at Reno’s Hot August Nights Auction

Two old Corvettes made their way out of their dusty homes to become barn find stars at the recent MAG Auctions Hot August Nights in Reno, Nev.

Butch Bockmier was trying to sell a red 1965 Corvette roadster that he had discovered at an estate in the Seattle area.

“The previous owner, we believe, owned the car for over 50 years,” Bockmier told KOLO TV. “It was an absolute barn find. We had to weed through the cobwebs to get to it.”

Doug O’Dell had an even more unusual 1964 Corvette at the auction, a car that had sat in a Placerville garage for 40 years until he unearthed it.

As many fellow enthusiasts will attest, O’Dell says a barn find is a rare find. “Whenever you find a Corvette or something cool in a barn, you’ve got to buy it,” he said.

O’Dell’s Corvette is like taking a trip back to the psychedelic days of the ’60s as it was customized by the legendary Art Himsl. While the metal flake paint has deteriorated over the years, enough remains to make this Corvette a one-of-a-kind time machine. In fact, O’Dell had a new clear coat put over the old paint to preserve it.

“I believe that someone will buy this car as a piece of history,” O’Dell said. “It’s like a George Barris car, if you will. Art Himsl has the same sort of reputation as George Barris. Like a Picasso.”

We tried to find out how much the new owners paid for these works of art – long hidden away waiting for their time to once again shine as a barn find – but results haven’t been posted yet on the auction website and our call and email wasn’t returned at the time we published the story.
