Corvettes on Woodward Charity Event Changing Locations for 2016

The 2016 edition of Corvettes on Woodward is still 5 months away, but organizer Larry Courtney is already sharing some details of this year’s event. Among the changes are a new location and a Corvette American flag display.

The most notable change to the Corvettes on Woodward is the new location for the start of Wednesday’s annual cruise down world famous Woodward Avenue. The brand new M1 Concourse in Pontiac is now the gathering location. The M1 Concourse is an 87 acre automotive playground for gearheads located right on Woodward Avenue about 3 miles north of the old Kingsley in location. The property was a General Motors plant for the previous 100 years. The M1 Concourse is still under construction and will offer 250+ private garages and a 1.5 mile road course when done. When completed it will be the largest facility of its kind in the world. It’s hard to believe that the Motor City has never had a facility like this before.

The main advantage of the new location its size as it can hold roughly 1,000 Corvettes. Past participants will recall that a few time cars were forced to stage in adjacent parking lots as space was always at a premium. There will also now be a tent offered to take cover from the sun and, as usual, food will be available.

The procession down Woodward Avenue will begin with a lap around M1’s 1.5 mile Champion Motor Speedway. From there it’ll be a police escorted lap around The Loop on Woodward’s north end before heading south to the Open Hands Food Panty to drop off food and cash donations.

Another new event will be a Corvette American flag display. Corvettes at Carlisle has done this twice now and it’s proven to be wildly popular. This is another chance for America’s sports car to show its appreciate for America. 51 red, 42 white and 20 blue Corvettes are needed for the display. If your vette is one of these 3 hues and you’ll be in the metro Detroit area in mid-August, contact Larry Courtney at [email protected]. Additionally, there will be a Corvette Generations display and a Souvenir Book again this year.

Entry to the M1 Concourse is just a $10 donation and all profits and food donations from this event will go once again to the Open Hands Food Pantry in Royal Oak.
