One of the big draws for the Corvette fans who attend IMSA races to cheer on the Corvette Racing C7.Rs is the Corvette Corral, a special place to park your Corvette at the track and hang out with other Corvette Racing fans.

For a 24 hour race, having a “home base” is totally worth the price of admission, not only as a place to park, rest and eat, but for the bonus coverage fans receive with presentations from Corvette and other team-related sponsors.

This year’s Corvette presentation at the Rolex 24 were handled by Josh Holder, Program Engineering Manager for Corvette. Josh is responsible for integration, design and development of the Corvette’s subsystems – basically the whole car, and he was joined by his wife Angela Benczik, a longtime GM employee who is now in the finance department after an engineering stint during C5/C6 at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant.

With C7 Corvette production well underway, not much news comes out of this presentation. Josh does a great job bringing everyone up to date with color changes and the Z06 C7.R special edition. After that, Josh opens the floor for questions.

One of his answers which caught our attention was in regards to a question about whether the new paint shop would be offering a pearl white color when it opens in 2017. Josh refused to confirm that individual color, but did have this say about the new paint shop’s capabilities:

“I won’t tell you what we are planning to paint next year, but never say never. It’s going to be a big step forward in paint quality and will also be a huge enabler of for us in terms of the number and types of colors that we can offer.

Another paint shop question bring out this fact. The current paint shop at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant is 35 years old and it’s one of the oldest if not the oldest paint shop at any of GM’s production facilities. Josh said is likely the worst car for the oldest paint shop because it’s the car that everybody cares about what their paint looks like.

Here is Josh and Angela from the Corvette Corral tent at the 2016 Rolex 24 of Daytona:

For those of you that were at the Corral for the Corvette presentation, we’re sorry that our presence ruined the opportunity to hear all of GM’s future plans for the Corvette. I guess you will all just have to keep visiting www.CorvetteBlogger.com for the latest in Corvette news.
