Corvette Racing and Porsche in Four Way Tie for Patron Endurance Cup


Corvette Racing fans are still pretty excited after the thrilling 1-2 finish in GTLM at the Rolex 24 at Daytona which puts the team at the top of the leader board after one race. But how did Corvette Racing do in The Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup?

We went back to look at the standings now that all the points have been awarded and Corvette Racing is in a four-way tie for the Endurance Cup Championship with Porsche.

The Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup is a special race within a race at four of the longer races in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Those races are the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen and the 10-hour Petit Le Mans which closes out the season at Road Atlanta.

Points for the Endurance Cup are award at even segments in each race with five points awarded to the leader after each segment. Second place gets four points, third place gets three points and everybody else still racing gets two points.

The No.4 Corvette C7.R with Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Marcel Fassler won the final segment while teammates Antonio Garcia, Jan Magnussen and Mike Rockenfeller in the No.3 Corvette C7.R won the the 3rd segment.

The first six-hour section at the Rolex 24 was won by the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR with Patrick Pilet, Nick Tandy and Kevin Estre and teammates Earl Bamber, Michael Christensen and Drederc Makowiecki in the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR were 2nd in the 1st segment and 3rd in the three remaining segments to score 13 points.

Based on the finishes in the each of the four segments, that leaves 12 drivers and four teams tied with 13 points to lead the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup. Here are full results in GTLM:

The next round of the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup will be at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring which will see points awarded in three segments every four hours of the 12 hour race.
