[PIC] Throwback Thursday: 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Racer at the Drum Shop

It’s time for Throwback Thursday where we feature vintage photos of Corvettes. Last week we featured a 1963 Corvette on the street at night and for this week’s TBT, we’ve selected another period photo of the classic split-window. Here’s a picture of a 1963 Corvette Sting Ray racer stopped in front of the Professional Drum Shop.

The driver is obviously a drummer based on the Ludwig sticker on the car. The car screams weekend warrior and it’s set up the way you would see many at the time with the removal of the front chrome bumpers. We also see what looks to be a couple of air scoops under the front grille and the side pipes are missing their covers, along with the side rocker panels.

Here’s the full size photo:

A Little Known Fact: Back in the day you could drive a Corvette with mismatched tires and everybody would say “Cool Corvette”. Try that today and everybody would say “Cool Corvette. What’s with the tires?”. We think “Goin Racin” is a pretty good answer.

Do you like this week’s Throwback Thursday selection? Let us know and please feel free to share this page on Twitter and Facebook.

  1. Keith the side pipes were added for racing. The ’63 didn’t come with them, not till about ’65.
