The factory-backed Corvette C7.Rs aren’t the only Corvettes to tackle La Sarthe this weekend for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The French racing team Larbre Competition are enjoying their 23rd appearance at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and this year they will be driving the No.50 Corvette C7.R known as the “French American” in the GTE Amateur Class.

This is the same C7.R chassis the No.3 Corvette C7.R drove to a class win at the Rolex Daytona 24 Hour race in January. Larbre Competition also drove the car at the 12 Hours of Sebring in March and the team now has its sights set on the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Earlier this week the team and its three drivers Kristian Poulsen, Gianluca Roda and Paolo Ruberti participated in the traditional scrutineering on Sunday at the Place de la Republique in downtown Le Mans.

On Wednesday the serious race prep will begin with cars taking to the historic circuit in the first free practice session. With rain in the forecast, the team is hoping their Test Day preparations which also took place in rainy weather will help them prepare for the weekend race.

Larbre Competition also got a boost this week by announcing a new sponsorship with French watch maker BRM.

Jack Leconte, Larbre’s Team Manager stressed the importance of scrutineering even though the process has become a routine event after 23 years. “It’s always an important event, especially for morale within the team as some members work with us all year long, while others only join us for Le Mans. Scrutineering is the first time we’re all together and is a great opportunity for everyone to find their feet before giving 100% for the best possible result on Sunday.”

“Wednesday’s programme will obviously be weather-dependent seeing as conditions have been quite unsettled this year. Test Day mostly took place in the rain but has been followed by glorious weather. More showers are expected throughout the event but at least we know our wet weather set-up has been perfectly fine-tuned!” said the team owner.

We’ll be following the French team and their “French American” Corvette C7.R throughout the weekend and we’re hoping for a Corvette C7.R sweep of the GTE PRO and AM classes this weekend!
