Mark Reuss, GM’s top product development manager and the owner of a 1954 Corvette, will have the honor of driving the 2015 Corvette Z06 Pace Car for the Chevrolet Dual races on Detroit’s Belle Isle this Saturday and Sunday. The Chevrolet Duals are the next events part of the Verizon IndyCar Series which is sharing a weekend of racing on the Belle Isle street course with the TUDOR United SportsCar series.

Reuss drove a Corvette Stingray in last year’s Dual races but this year the pace car is the 650 horsepower Corvette Z06 which is outfitted very similar to the one that NASCAR’s Jeff Gordon drove last weekend at the Indianapolis 500.

“I’m thrilled to drive the Corvette Z06 pace car at this year’s Grand Prix,” Reuss said. “Growing up here and having the opportunity to help bring this great event to racing fans in Detroit has been very exciting, and the privilege of driving the pace car makes it even more special for me.”

Reuss is one of our favorite execs at GM as he is a true car guy. A little known fact about Mr. Reuss is that he is a certified industry pool test driver on the North Course of the Nurburgring. Also on his resume was the creation of the GM Performance Division in 2001 which oversaw GM’s racing efforts and he was behind the push of the Chevrolet SS models and the Cadillac V-Series.

“This race is quintessential to the world of motorsports and Chevrolet,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet U.S. vice president of performance vehicles and motorsports. “Mark has always lived and breathed performance cars, so it’s perfect to have him behind the wheel of the most powerful and capable production car ever made by Chevrolet.”

You can see Mark Reuss drive the Corvette Z06 pace car for the Chevrolet Dual races. Saturday and Sunday’s races both start at 3:30 pm EDT and will be broadcast on ABC-TV. Also on Saturday, you can watch the Corvette DPs take to the Belle Isle Course on Saturday at 12 Noon. The race is broadcast live from 12 noon to 2 pm on Fox Sports 2 or watch the tape delayed broadcast on Fox Sports 1 on Saturday from 2 pm to 4 pm EDT.
