The National Corvette Museum (NCM), along with the Grand Sport Registry and the ZR-1 Net Registry will be hosting the C4 Gathering on May 14-16. The 2015 Gathering will be celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the LT5-powered ZR-1 setting a number of new world speed records, including averaging 175 mph for 24 hours.

The Gathering is open to everyone interested in fourth generation Corvettes built between 1984 and 1996. Activities will include seminars, a special guided plant/museum tour, and a NCM Motorsports Park track day, in addition to information specific to the C4 Corvette.

Super Special Guests

Special guests include John Heinricy (former assistant chief engineer for Corvette, director of GM Performance Division and noted race driver), Jim Minneker (GM engineer and driver), Ralph Kramer(former Chevrolet public relations member), Don Knowles (co-driver on the ZR-1 record run), and Graham Behan (Lotus development engineer for the LT-5 ZR-1 engine).

Great Seminars

The NCM always outdoes itself with seminars at its events and the Gathering is no exception. This year will see seminars offered for:

  • Record Run Retrospective featuring a panel discussion with the ZR-1 world record team with the record-breaking car on display
  • How and Why the Grand Sport was Created with the father of the ’96 Grand Sport, John Heinricy
  • Prototype That Never Came to Be with Graham Behan
  • Major Power Upgrades with Marc Haibeck
  • Automotive Technology also with Marc Haibeck

Superb Social Activities

So you won’t be spending all of your time in seminars, the NCM has planned ample socializing time to chat with Corvette fans from all over. There will be a welcome reception on Wednesday night, a Meet ‘n’ Greet Gathering on Thursday, a Friday night BBQ, and a Saturday night banquet. In addition, there will be VIP Corvette Museum and assembly plant tours on Thursday and Friday. That’s a lot of activities packed into a long weekend—make sure you are caught up on your sleep before you get there.

Magnificent Motoring Events

No NCM event would be complete without some great motoring events. The C4 Gathering offers a free guided road tour to Summer Crest Winery, along with a Rollercoaster Scenic Road Tour. Should your interests lie in going a bit faster, the NCM has you covered.

Across the street at the new NCM Motorsports Park, there will be touring laps offered. This is strictly a low-speed event—no helmets or roll bars are necessary and passengers are invited to come along. If you want to see how it’s done, you can take hot laps with a professional driver in your car or in one of the NCM corvettes. Finally, you may participate in an untimed autocross on the MSP road course. Helmets are required.

For those who are into shows, a Celebrity Choice Show & Shine event will be held on Friday with the awards presented during the Saturday banquet.

Some C4 owners see their cars as the Rodney Dangerfield of the Corvette community—they “Don’t get no respect”. The C4 Gathering marks an occasion where C4 owners can bask in the spotlight as their beloved C4 receives well-deserved respect and admiration.
