Danny Popp and his 2003 Corvette Z06 Wins the 2014 Ultimate Street Car Invitational

For the second time since 2011, Danny Popp and his 2003 Corvette Z06 are the overall winner of the 2014 Ultimate Street Car Invitational sponsored Nov. 8-9 for the first time at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway by OPTIMA Batteries.

This time, Popp won the title by less than a point over Brandon Ranvek and his 2006 Mitsubishi Evo.

“It’s been incredible to drive on the most historic tracks during the 2014 season,” Popp said. “We will definitely be back next year!”

Competitors – 103 of them in all – took on a series of competitive driving challenges last weekend, including the Wilwood Speed Stop Challenge, Ridetech Street Challenge Autocross, and Detroit Speed Road Rally Challenge on Saturday and the high-speed BF Goodrich Hot Lap Challenge all day Sunday.

Popp racked up enough points for the overall win, thanks to his first-place finish in the Hot Lap Challenge and his second-place finish in the Street Challenge Autocross.

But he wasn’t the only successful Corvette driver there. In the LIngenfelter Performance and Design Challenge, Alan Palmer and his 1959 Corvette were second, with Dan Livezey and his 1964 Corvette in third.

The Lingenfelter Performance and Design Challenge took two days of judging, where each vehicle’s overall quality and craftsmanship were analyzed. Chevy also had two Camaros to place in the Hot Lap Challenge – Ryan Mathews second in his 2010 and Bryan Johnson third in his 2013.

Popp’s overall win was impressive considering that Ranvek captured two wins in his Evo RS – in the Speed Stop Challenge and the Street Challenge Autocross.

For the first time, a manufacturer’s midway was assembled at the event site, and a wide range of performance industry parts makers displayed their products and services to interested competitors and spectators.

You can catch a replay of the action on Friday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time on the MAVTV Network. Check your local listings and set your DVR.
