Bloomington Gold Corvette Show to Leave Champaign

Although a move has been rumored for the last couple of weeks, we’ve confirmed today that the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show will be leaving Champaign, Ill. where the show has been hosted for the last two years on the grounds of the University of Illinois.

A representative from Bloomington Gold tells us a new location will be announced soon.

It appears that the main reason for the move is due to the on going construction of the State Farm Center. President and CEO of Visit Champaign County Jayne DeLuce was on WDWS-AM on Friday and said the following:

…as we got further into the construction process, it [Bloomington Gold] recognized that there needed to be a change in format and I think for vendors particularly, the first year the format worked great, but when you change it out completely the second year they feel that it didn’t work as well for them, and I think that that caused a lot of the dissatisfaction among them.”

DeLuce went on to say that vendors have also expressed a desire to have the show return to the Chicago area.

Bloomington Gold is the oldest Corvette show and every year thousands of enthusiasts flock to Illinois for the judging, seminars and swap meet. One of the main reasons given for the move down to Champaign was to get out of the congestion of the Chicago suburbs so that more driving events could be scheduled. Last year, over 1,000 Corvettes were part of the Saturday evening GoldTour where enthusiasts parade their Corvettes through nearby communities.

Make sure you stay tuned and we’ll let you know when we hear about a new location for the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show.
