When I was younger, I dated a girl who took great pride in telling everyone she had a ‘Vette.
Then she would mumble under her breath that it actually was a “Che-vette.”
Wendy Griffith of Sugar Land, Texas can relate.
When she was younger, she “drove a Chevy Chevette Scooter and used to pretend it was a muscle car because it had a standard transmission, and I’d rev the engine,” she says.
No more pretending for Wendy these days, though.
Last week, she took delivery of the hottest car around right now – a 2014 Corvette Stingray Coupe from Classic Chevrolet, her local dealer.
Wendy was the first person to order a Stingray from Classic Chevy and didn’t even know how much the car would cost back then.
She just knew she wanted a Stingray.
“I love it,” she says. “I’ve been waiting for it forever. It’s the perfect car.”
The Griffiths chose the premium color Crystal Red Tintcoat (an extra $995) for the outside of their car and, like many of the early Stingray buyers, splurged with the 3LT package that features the deluxe interior. The options brought the price up to $64,290.
The weather didn’t cooperate in her first weekend of ownership, but Wendy still reports that the Stingray “is a hot little number.”
She praises the Corvette as an “amazing piece of machinery” and reports that she even got a thumbs-up from the driver of a Ford GT nearby. “That was pretty amazing,” she says. “Going through school zones, everybody stares and waves.”
Wendy’s husband, Steve, who is assistant city manager of Sugar Land and a longtime law-enforcement administrator in the Houston area, is glad his wife was able to fulfill her dream.
He’s looking forward to taking their 9-month-old granddaughter for a ride in the Stingray.
