Corvette Auction Preview: Mecum Chicago 2013

Mecum Auctions blows into the Windy City this weekend for their annual sale. This year they christen a new location with 1,000 vehicles including over 90 Corvettes. The 3-day event kicks off Thursday, October 10th and runs through Saturday, October 12th at the Schaumburg Convention Center. Velocity will have 16 hours of live coverage from Chicago.

Corvettes representing model years 1957 through 2014 are up for grabs this weekend. Looking at the cars by generation, we see 9 C1’s, 22 C2’s, 30 C3’s, 19 C4’s, 2 C5’s and 8 C6’s.

The 1963 Harley Earl Corvette sits at the top of the Corvette mountain this week. We’ve even speculated if it could set another world record sales price. Other gems on the Corvette docket include a 1965 365hp roadster (pictured above), a red/red 1970 LT-1 convertible, and a 60th anniversary 2013 427 convertible.

Here’s a closer look at some other cool Vettes crossing the Mecum auction block this weekend in Chicago.

Lot S123 – 1963 Split Window Fuelie Coupe:
A Tuxedo Black on black SWC featuring the 327/360hp fuel injected engine. A Borg Warner T-10 4-speed transmits power to the rear wheels. This C2 rides on heavy duty suspension featuring a 7-leaf rear spring. Other options include wheel covers and the Wonderbar AM radio.

Lot S209 – 2009 Hennessey ZR750:
Sometimes 638 horsepower just isn’t enough. That’s where tuners like Hennessey Performance come in. This ZR1 has been outfitted with their ZR750 package. In fact, this is the very first ZR750. Modifications include high flow cylinder heads, stainless long-tube headers, upgraded cam shaft. and a new supercharger pulley. The result is 750hp, 664 ft-lbs of torque, and 0-60mph times under 3 seconds.

Lot S108 – 1967 427/435, 4 speed Convertible:
You can’t hold a high end collector car auction without a 435hp 1967 Corvette. Lot S108 features the matching numbers 427/435 L71 engine and M21 transmission. A 3.36 Positraction rear end routes power out to the rear wheels. Other installed options include F41 suspension, power brakes, off road exhaust, and bolt-on wheels. The red on black convertible was sold new at George Olsen Chevrolet in San Francisco and is documented with the NCRS Shipping Data Report.

Lot S108 - 1967 427/435, 4 speed Convertible

Mecum’s 2013 Chicago auction takes place this weekend at the Schaumburg Convention Center in Schaumburg, (suburban Chicago) Illinois. Vehicle sales kick off at 1pm local time October 10th then resume at 10am both Friday and Saturday the 11th and 12th respectively.

Velocity’s live coverage will air Thursday from 4pm – 8pm Central time as well as 2pm-8pm (Central) on Friday and Saturday. A Webcast is also available on the Mecum website throughout the event.
