Rick Hendrick Picks Up First Production 2014 Corvette Stingray

Can you imagine the excitement for Rick Hendrick on Friday?

That’s when he finally took delivery of the first production 2014 Corvette Stingray that he had purchased way back in January during the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Arizona.

GM presented the NASCAR team owner and auto dealer, and Corvette collector extraordinaire, with Stingray VIN 0001 during a ceremony at GM’s Warren Tech Center, then surprised everyone, including Hendrick, with another new Corvette, VIN 0002.

No doubt, that made Hendricks’ winning $1.1 million bid during the Barrett-Jackson auction twice as nice.

The first Corvette, by the way, is black with a red interior. The second Stingray is red with a red interior.

Both cars stickered for about $75,000, meaning they are fully loaded with options.

“Being the biggest Corvette gearhead in the world,” Hendrick said, “I don’t know anything that would top this.”

Hendrick’s latest Corvettes will be added to his ever-growing collection of special ‘Vettes, which now number about 150. He says he doesn’t plan to drive either one of the Stingrays, but let’s hope he does get another Stingray “driver” so he can enjoy the thrill of being behind the wheel!

By the way, the $1.1 million bid benefited the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, where it will be used for student financial aid.

Later this year, Hendrick will also take delivery of the first production 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible, which he also purchased for $1 million during April 2013’s Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach
