Chevrolet to Celebrate 60 Years of Corvette at Woodward Dream Cruise

Billed as the world’s largest one-day automotive event, the annual Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit this Saturday is expected to attract more than a million car fanatics. Chevrolet is once again the presenting sponsor and one of the highlights will be the celebration of Corvette’s 60th anniversary.

Visitors to the Dream Cruise can expect to see all manner of vehicles along the famous boulevard that runs through the heart of America’s car capital, and you can count seeing many examples of Corvettes on the route.

Chevrolet will be hosting several events and activities this week in preparation for Saturday’s cruise.

On Wednesday, August 15, the GM Design team is hosting a car show from 1pm to 9pm at the Northwood Plaza on the southwest corner of Woodward and 13 Mile Road. The show will feature personal vehicles owned by members of the Design team and there will be live entertainment as well.

On Thursday, the Chevrolet Performance display will take over Memorial Park which is on the Northwest corner of Woodward and 13 Mile Road. The display will feature a collection of performance show cars and production vehicles, a motorsports display and a variety of Chevrolet performance parts.

Saturday, August 18th is the big day of course and there are many acitivities and displays set up in Birmingham Triangle. The day’s activities kick off at 8 am Saturday and run through the conclusion of the Dream Cruise at 9 pm.

  • A Corvette timeline will feature a display of milestone Corvettes and engines that span the 60 years and six generations of America’s sports car.
  • Detroit graffiti artist Shades will paint a large Corvette-inspired mural throughout the day.
  • Chevrolet military display.
  • Chevrolet modern family dispay showcasing chevrolet vehicles and accessories.
  • Display of Chevrolet heritage and specialty vehicles.

“The Woodward Dream Cruise is a true celebration of America’s love affair with the automobile and the open road, and for Chevrolet it is an opportunity for us to connect with some of our most passionate consumers and their families,” said Chris Perry, Chevrolet global vice president of marketing.

CorvetteBlogger will be on the streets taking part in both of the official and unofficial Woodward Dream Cruise activies and we’re expecting our arms to be very tired from all the waves to fellow Corvette drivers on the street. Check back as we’ll have a full wrap-up of all the activities in the coming days.
