[ACCIDENT] 2003 Corvette Z06 Destroyed in Crash with Drunk Driver

What’s the more dangerous road? Doing 160 mph at a HPDE at Daytona International Speedway or going 50 mph on US 1 in the Florida Keys?

For Jeff Allen of Key West, Florida, it was the ride home that proved to be disastrous to his 2003 Corvette Z06 when he was hit head on by an alleged drunk driver.

Jeff posted the photos of his Corvette after the accident on the Corvette Forum and the general concensous is that its amazing that he walked away with just a few minor injuries.

The accident occurred on Tuesday, December 11th at Mile Marker 13 on US 1 in the Florida Keys. The car that struck Allen was a 2006 Nissan Maxima driven by Rebecca Rouseff of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Florida Highway Patrol says that Rouseff was heading North on US1 when she sideswiped a 2001 Chevy truck driven by Michael Lyons, Jr of Key West, FL. Troopers say the Nissan then struck Jeff Allen’s 2003 Corvette Z06. The resulting accident blocked traffic for hours as emergency workers needed to free Rouseff from her vehicle before she was airlifted to Kendall Regional Medical Center in Miami.

Allen and Lyons were taken to Lower Keys Medical Center on Stock Island where they were treated and released.

Here is Jeff’s recounting of the incident:

“The other driver swerved into my lane sideswiped the truck in front of me then we hit head on. Was on a bridge so I could not do anything but I did swerve to the right a little bit. We were both doing 50mph. Air bags went off and had my seat belt on. Had my steering wheel angled pretty low (don’t know if that helped) my thighs just clear it when I get in and out. I think I hit my head on the roof or post above the side window. So got some cuts in my hair line and a scrap on my forehead. Lower leg/ Calf got ripped open by the clutch peddle getting pushed up. Driver side wheel actually came through the floor by the peddles. Docs said I had a small concussion.”

“When the wrecking yard guys saw me today, they could not believe I was walking. Said I should get another vett since I was standing there. The person who hit me got air lifted… But goes to show we have some pretty safe cars!”

Jeff’s Corvette was a mess after the accident, which is a shame as his Z06 was nicely modded with LG headers, Bosanti exhaust, Vararam intake and LG brake cooling ducts. The next day he visited the car at the wrecking yard and took these photos.

As for the driver of the Maxima, FHP suspected Rouseff of driving under the influence of alcohol and charges are still pending in the crash.
