Wasting Away: 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe

Here’s a sad sight for any Corvette lover. These pictures, posted on the Corvette Forum, show a 1963 Split Window Coupe that appears to have been stripped and forgotten. Unlike the 1963 SWC that was spotted on Google Street View back in 2009, we don’t have an address on this barn/field car and that’s a shame as this Corvette deserves to be saved.

Just 10,594 Corvette coupes were built during in 1963, the first year of C2 production. Due to the perceived value of the car in any condition, we are sure there are many more out there being stored like this, waiting for that “one day” when the owner decides to sell.

The graceful lines and curves that make the 63 split window one of most beautifully designed cars of the era if not all time are just as present on this barn/field car as any Bloomington Gold certified Corvette. Perhaps its due to the all bright work removed or just the contrast of the stripped fiberglass in a sea of green foliage.

One of the commenters on the forum offered this suggestion as a perfect resting place for this Corvette and we can totally visualize it as well:

“As a Vietnam Wall-like tribute, I can imagine a car like this one in a small outdoor garden at the National Corvette Museum…

  2. If anyone knows where this car sits I would love to buy it and try to restore it. It deserves an effort. Can’t imagine why anyone would do this to any Vette!

  3. I know of a chrome bumper C3 in about the same shape… Just sitting outside, probably suffering from frame rot, etc.

  4. Heart broken,, after back injuries I had to sell my 69 Camero instead of watching it rust away. Seeing this I have the same feelings. Though with little or no money I would still find a way to protect and salvage any parts I could, Just to hold on to the dream.
