Update on 2011 Corvette Production Statistics

During the Corvette Team’s presentation at the National Corvette Museum’s C5/C6 Bash, Product Manager Harlan Charles discussed the production statistics of the 2011 Corvette. As of April 26th, there have been 12,185 Corvettes produced with the Grand Sport accounting for 59% of production. Additionally, most buyers of the Coupe, Convertible and Grand Sports are opting for the 3LT package.

When the color chart came up, Harlan sarcastically asked the audience if anyone cared about colors. After pointing out that Black was the most popular color for the 2011 Corvettes, he joked that someone would have to be crazy to discontinue it. (Black is being discontinued for 1 year while special edition Carbon Flash metallic on the 2012 Centennial Corvettes will fill the void.) Black is the most produced color with 22% share while the two reds are second, Torch Red at 16% and Crystal Red at 11%.

The other color chart breaks down the exterior colors by model and shows Black as the leading color on all models except Z06, where its third behind Supersonic Blue and Inferno Orange. We believe that is due to the Carbon Edition’s exclusive use of the two colors which accounts for 28% of Z06 production so far.

Speaking of Z06 production, the two new RPOs for 2011 Z06, the CFZ Carbon Fiber Package and the Z07 performance package are chosen by 61% and 63% of Z06 buyers respectively.

Here are the photos of all of the 2011 Production statistics as shown:

The final slide shows how production of the Corvette relates to other sports cars in the luxury sport category. The good news here shows that Corvette is the current market leader and showed strong growth from 1st quarter 2010 to 1st quarter 2011. Sales for the Porsche 911, the competitor closest to Corvette in sales showed a slight decline in sales of 0.5% for the same time period.

As a final note, ordering for 2011 Corvette ended last week and production is expected to come to close in Mid-June.
