Auction Results: Mecum's Des Moines Corvette Sales

Mecum wrapped up another Muscle Cars and More auction this weekend in Des Moines, Iowa. A total of 39 Corvettes ranging from a 1956 roadster to a 2005 Coupe crossed the auction block with 22 Corvettes changing hands. The total take was a mere $362,650 as the Corvettes averaged a 56% success rate for sales.

The Corvettes gathered for the Des Moines were average at best, which was expected since this event comes on the heels of Mecum’s Bloomington Gold auction held in June. The top seller was Lot #F123, a 1961 Red/White Corvette roadster powered by a 283/245 hp dual-quad V8. The numbers matching Corvette sold for $43,500. On the other end of the spectrum was Lot #S7, a 1985 black/silver “Dale Earnhardt” tribute car that sold for $3,500 in one of the auctions “no-reserve” lots. If the Corvette runs and drives “fine” as stated in the auction catalog, then one lucky buyer may have scored on this self-proclaimed “starter Vette”.

In the no-sale category, Lot #S53, a 2004 AAT Commemorative Edition which features the front end look of a C1 combined with the ride and performance of a C5 hit $75,000 in bidding. If you recall, a 2001 Commemorative Edition sold last month at Barrett-Jackson Orange County for $110,000 so perhaps the owner thought he could get more.
