Corvette Auction Results: Mecum at Monterey

The Mecum in Monterey auction was held on Saturday and over 200 cars were featured including 25 Corvettes. Despite the nice mix of unique and important cars in Corvette history, most failed to reach the reserve price and went unsold. Just 8 of the 25 Corvettes did sell for a total take of $651,000 and a 32% sales success rate. Two Corvettes topped the $100,000 mark with the top seller being the 1967 “Ed Cole” L89 Corvette Coupe which we’ve named our Deal of the Year. Second on the list was a 1969 L88 Corvette Coupe that sold for $150,000.

Two historic former Corvette racers driven by the Delmo Johnson/Dave Morgan race team generated the most interest of the 25 Corvettes although both failed to sell. The 1963 Corvette Z06 race car had a high bid of $700,000 while a 1962 Corvette was bidded up to $600,000.

In addition to the 1967 Ed Cole Corvette, another C2 we believe to be well bought was a matching number’s 1966 Corvette Coupe equipped with a 427/390 hp V8 that sold for $51,000.
