Back in January we got a preview of Hennessey Performance Engineering’s upgrade to Chevrolet’s Corvette ZR1. HPE’s Z700 Corvette ZR1 includes an extensive list of bolt-on parts combined with a custom tune to boost the standard 638 horsepower ZR1 to 705. And to prove this car is a contender, Hennessey is planning to run the Nurburgring later this year.

Preliminary testing of the Hennessey Z700 package shows a significant boost in performance. How’s 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds sound? Yea, that’s pretty damn fast. Hennessey also quotes a 0-100 mph in 6.4 seconds and the Z700 runs the quarter mile in 10.6 seconds at 134 mph.

The list of upgrades includes even more carbon fiber goodies like super light carbon fiber wheels on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires which reduces rotating weight by nearly 60 lbs. Hennessey’s Z-Aero carbon fiber front splitter, canards and rear spoiler also add over 300 lbs of downforce, helping plant the added power to the road or track.

Hennessey gives the interior some love too by ditching the standard seats in favor of lightweight carbon fiber seats with 5-point harnesses. An alcantara steering wheel and shift knob completes the package. Total cost of the Z700 package is estimated at $207,150 which includes a 2010 Corvette ZR1.

Hennessey compares the Z700 upgrade to the Porsche GT3 RS and the Dodge Viper ACR. To prove it belongs in this exclusive club, HPE is planning on running the Z700 at the famous Nurburgring later this year. You can bet the standard Corvette ZR1’s lap of 7:26 will be in the crosshairs.

Finally, if the Z700 still sounds too tame, take heart. Hennessey also has a Z750 upgrade for 750 horsepower and the twin turbo Z1000 will top out at 1,000 horsepower.

Full Press Release from Hennessey Performance Engineering:

(SEALY, TX) The world’s fastest and most powerful production Corvette, the 638 bhp ZR1 has become the pinnacle of American sports cars. For most ZR1 owners, having a car capable of Nurburgring times of 7:26 is more than enough performance to satisfy their need for speed. However, for the select few who subscribe to the mantra of “Too much horsepower is never enough” Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) has something special in store for them in 2010. HPE is happy to introduce the company’s 705 bhp Z700 upgrade package for the 2010 Corvette ZR1. Porsche 911 owners wanting the uber Porsche can order the GT3 RS. Dodge Viper enthusiasts wanting the ultimate road race Viper have the ACR. Now ZR1 owners can opt for the Hennessey Z700 upgrade for their Corvettes.

Hennessey’s Z700 performance package starts by upgrading the LS9’s supercharger, exhaust and air induction systems, which is then dyno tuned to 705 bhp. But this is just the beginning. Additional upgrades include lightweight carbon fiber wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, which reduces rotating weight by nearly 60 lbs. Hennessey’s Z-Aero carbon fiber front splitter, canards and rear spoiler also add over 300 lbs of downforce, helping plant the added power to the road or track. Rounding out the Z700 upgrade package is a revised interior with lightweight carbon fiber seats, Alcantara steering wheel and shift knob.

HPE will be throwing its hat into the Ring – literally – with plans to begin testing the Z700 at the famed Nurburgring in Germany later in 2009. The company plans to build just 24 of these limited-edition Corvette ZR1’s for the 2010 model year. Each customer also gets a full day of performance driving instruction in his or her new Z700 at Hennessey’s own private test track, Lonestar Motorsports Park. Lonestar, which is next to the company’s facility, is located just west of Houston, Texas and has a full quarter-mile dragstrip as well as the addition of a 1.1-mile road course which will soon be under construction.
