1959 Corvette Custom Resto-Mod

Barrett-Jackson concluded their three day collector car event in South Florida on Saturday and sales of the 39 Corvettes featured at the no-reserve auction totaled $2,146,275. This trails last year’s 4-day, 59 Corvette auction that brought in $3.8 Million in sales. Included in the sale were 11 Corvettes from GM’s Heritage Collection which brought a total of $496,650.

The overall top selling Corvette was a 1959 Corvette Custom Resto-Mod (Lot #652.1)equipped with a LS3 500-hp V8 and a ton of toys like the 7″ LCD screen for rear view camera plus DVD player and power activated trunk and hood. The custom Red/White cove roadster sold for $148,500 which was the eighth highest selling car of the entire auction. Second on the Corvette sales list was another C1, an original documented 1962 Roadster (Lot #674.1) powered by a 327 cubic inch fuelie. The Honduras Maroon NCRS Top Flight Corvette sold for $143,000.

As you may have read, sales of GM’s Heritage Collection cars was halted midway through Thursday’s auction by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over concerns that buyers would try to register the “scrap” titled cars for the road. Cooler heads prevailed and the sales resumed on Friday.

The top selling Corvette from the Heritage Collection was the 1999 “First Built” Hardtop (Lot #678.1). Equipped with an LS1 V8, Z51 suspension and a 6-speed manual transmission, the first production hardtop since 1967 sold for $110,000.
