GM released the first sales figures for the new year and for the first time since we started keeping track in 2006, Corvette deliveries dropped below 1,000 units to close at 842 for the month of January. Unfortunately for both GM and the assembly workers in Bowling Green, 842 Corvette sales does little to alleviate the supply of Corvettes on the ground and the slow sales could force the company to keep the factory’s doors closed longer than planned.
We are seeing very little constriction in the supply of Corvettes available nationwide. Jeff Hardy’s website (see below) shows over 2,000 2008 Corvettes still available as well as nearly 6,500 2009′s available. We have seen a new 0% financing offer rolled out for 0-60 months and 1.99% financing for 0-72 months on new 2008 Corvettes so perhaps this will make a dent in the inventory.
According to sources, the Bowling Green Assembly plant will remain closed until March 3, 2009.
