December’s Corvette sales were up sharply over November’s sales figures as the final tally for the 2007 monthly sales figures were released by General Motors. Sales of Corvettes in December 2007 totaled 2,914. That’s up from the 2,438 units sold in November 2007 but down slightly from December 2006’s 3,081 Corvettes sold.
The 2007 calendar year will go down as another strong year for Corvette sales. January through December 2007 saw 33,684 Corvettes sold. While that figure was down from 36,518 Corvettes sold in 2006, it was higher than the 32,489 Corvettes sold in 2005. Remember that Corvette production for the 2007 model year was a bit of an anomaly as an astounding 40,561 Corvettes were built, the highest model year production figure since the introduction of the C4 Corvette in 1984.
The outlook for sales during the 2008 calendar year should continue to remain on par with what we’ve seen over the last three years: roughly 2,800 units per month for a total of 34,000 Corvettes for the year. While the 2009 Corvette ZR1 will make for interesting discussion as the ultimate halo car, production targets are rumored to be in the neighborhood of 1,500 units. Right now no one knows if ZR1 sales will come at the expense of the Corvette Z06.
