From Hell of War to Corvette Heaven

Douglas and Stacey's 1996 CE CorvetteWhile her husband Douglas was serving in Iraq for the past year, training Iraqi police in a province 50 miles south of Baghdad, school teacher Stacey Paley saved as much of her paycheck as possible to surprise him with the car that he’s always wanted. It had been Douglas’ lifelong dream to own a Corvette. Douglas returned from his tour of duty on September 10th and was rewarded with the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantryman Badge for his service and valor during combat. However, the biggest reward was waiting from his wife. The day after he returned, she took him to a dealership and showed him the Corvette she had already picked out…a 1996 Collectors Edition Convertible. He drove to his civilian job and claimed “I think they were more interested in the car than me.” As for his wife’s surprise and choice in Corvettes, Douglas said, “I’m just happy to have it”.
