On Tuesday, July 18, GM will be saluting the Corvette Racing team for its 5th class win at the 24 Hours of LeMans with a parade and presentations in downtown Detroit. The event begins at the Compuware Corporation, who is the primary sponsor of Corvette Racing, with a caravan of Corvette race cars, pace cars and other collector cars though the streets of Detroit including famed Woodward Avenue. The parade concludes at Jefferson Avenue where the lobby of GM’s Renaissance Center is located. At the Renaissance Center, there will be a presentation of the 24 Hours of LeMans trophy and speeches by Chevrolet’s General Manager Ed Peper and Pete Karmanos, Jr, CEO of Compuware. Following the speeches, there is an autograph session with the Corvette Racing drivers. Corvette Racing is an American success story, winning the GT1 class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans five times and defeating marques such as Ferrari, Aston Martin, Lamborghini and Viper in top-level international road racing. The championship-winning Corvette C6.R race cars were developed with GM technical and human resources, and have strong links with the production Corvettes that are sold in Chevrolet showrooms.
